We realized this year that even though we've lived in San Antonio for almost 10 years (!), we've never really been to any Fiesta events.
So, when a co-worker (Leslie) of mine who is on the Fiesta Planning Committee invited us to join her for NIOSA (Night In Old San Antonio) one evening I happily accepted. This is one of the classic Fiesta events and is held in La Villita.
It was a pretty sweet deal: we got free admission and got to enter the grounds early in exchange for helping her complete her pre-NIOSA Fire Marshall task which involved going to the food booths in a couple of the "neighborhoods" and checking to make sure they had the right kind and right amount of fire extinguishers. With the three of us, the task was completed in no time and we were soon enjoying the abundance of yummy food and drinks with the rest of her family. The evening also held some great people watching opportunities which is always a plus.

This year the liquor branch of the company Greg works for hosted a viewing party for its employees on one of the floors of a parking garage along the parade route. It was a really nice set up for a parking garage ;) Nice tables, buffet, free drinks...plus great view of the parade! We had lots of fun shouting "show us your shoes!" at the Fiesta Court Duchesses. Tradition is that they wear funky/fun/silly shoes under those fancy dresses.

The Fiesta Court Duchesses all have long and random titles like "Duchess of Influential Empires"...what the heck does that even mean?!
The trains on the dresses are beautiful, intricately made, long...and heavy! When I interned for a local station's morning show we featured some of the dresses that year and those suckers weighed a ton! You'll notice in some photos how the trains are not actually attached to the dresses they are wearing but rather to the support pole.

Meat on a stick!! A classic Berger pose!! I still have that lovely picture of you Jennelle from the St. Mary's Oyster Bake, senior year of college!! Ahh... the memories.
